King Crimson – Penn State University, 1974 (RSD 2026 Double-LP on 200g Vinyl)
Released for Record Store Day 2026, this double album is limited to 2,500 copies. Cut by Jason Mitchell at Loud Mastering and pressed on 200-gram audiophile vinyl, the audio has been taken from the original multi-track tapes.
This double album presents King Crimson’s astonishing concert at Recreation Hall, on the University Park campus of Penn State University, on 29 June 1974, during the Starless and Bible Black Tour.
This multi-track recording captures the legendary line-up of Robert Fripp, John Wetton, Bill Bruford and David Cross, just days before the band’s initial split. The set is widely celebrated for its intense, ferocious improvisation, heavy riffs, and breathtaking renditions of Fracture and Starless.
This show captures the band at full force and is not only essential listening for fans of King Crimson, but also any fan of improvisation.
Included as a bonus track, is an incredible performance of 21st Century Schizoid Man, taken from the band’s appearance at the Schaefer Music Festival, held in New York’s Central Park, on 1 July 1974. This was the last performance by the 1970s incarnation, and the last by King Crimson before reforming in 1981.
