J.J. Cale – After Midnight at the Apollo: Live in London, 1994 (12-Inch Double-LP)

This double album showcases J.J. Cale’s stunning concert at London’s Hammersmith Apollo, on 6 October 1994, in its entirety.

Born in 1938, J.J. Cale’s influence has been acknowledged by musicians such as Neil Young, Mark Knopfler, and Eric Clapton, who described him as one of the most important artists in rock history. He is one of the originators of the Tulsa sound, a loose genre drawing on blues, rockabilly, country, and jazz.

In August 1994, Cale released his eleventh studio album, Closer to You. In the wake of the record’s release, the sometimes-reluctant Cale went out on the road, and in early October he played three nights at the Hammersmith Apollo. Considered one of J.J.’s finest shows of the era, the second of these dates, performed on 6 October, is captured here.
