Jethro Tull – Hard Times of Old England: Freiburg Broadcast 1982 (12-Inch Double-LP)

Jethro Tull – Hard Times of Old England: Freiburg Broadcast 1982 (12-Inch Double-LP)

This double album showcases Jethro Tull’s dazzling concert at the Stadthalle Freiburg, in Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany, on 30 April 1982, during the Broadsword Tour.

Jethro Tull’s lineup at the point consisted of Ian Anderson (vocals, flute, guitar), Martin Barre (guitar, mandolin), Dave Pegg (bass, mandolin, vocals), Peter-John Vettese (keyboards, vocals) and Gerry Conway (drums). Anderson and company work their way through a stellar set that bridges their then latest material with their breakthrough hits that made Jethro Tull one of the biggest bands of the 1970s.

Things especially heat up when Pegg and Conway (both formally of Fairport Convention) launch into The Swirling Pit, a traditional Celtic drinking jig. The show ends with a powerhouse triple punch of Aqualung, Minstrel in the Gallery and Locomotive Breath.
