Jaco Pastorius – Live at the Montreal Jazz Festival, 1982 (12-Inch Album)
This album captures Jaco Pastorius and his Word of Mouth band’s legendary set at the Montreal Jazz Festival, on 3 July 1982.
Here, Pastorius is joined by Randy Brecker (trumpet), Bob Mintzer (saxophone/bass clarinet), Peter Erskine (drums), Othello Molineaux (steel drums) and Don Alias (percussion). The group was a unexpected hybrid of big band, bebop, Caribbean and jazz-funk.
In performance, the band burns in electric hard-bop fashion on Donna Lee and gets appropriately funky on Fannie Mae. Also featured are The Chicken, Mr. Phone Bone and a bass solo featuring loop pedals.
Capturing a high-energy, seminal moment in jazz fusion, this iconic performance is widely considered a true jazz treasure.
